Only Sound Remains by Hossein Asgari

I have been raving about Only Sound Remains since I read it back in August last year.

It was the book I recommended in an interview with Books + Publishing.

There was something oppressive about the confession of the father to his son. The book also moved seamlessly across time periods. There is such incredible clarity and vividness to Asgari’s writing.

Also, the poet Forugh Farrokhzad is central to this book. Her poetry is woven through Only Sound Remains. It is clear that her life and work have been absorbed by the writer. I find I can only reference writers in this way when I have been reading their work for a long, long time.

I was very happy to see Only Sound Remains listed for this year’s Victorian Premier’s Literary Awards. This book and this writer deserve all the accolades.
