On the 6th of September, I will be launching Diving, Falling, the debut novel by Kylie Mirmohamadi.
This is an incredible book and I can’t wait to rave about it publicly. It begins with the death of Ken Black, a famous artist, and the fallout after his death, centred around the perspective of his wife, Leila Whittaker.
This is a book not so much about grief as the secrets and debris that death throws up, and people trying to find their feet after the removal of the shadow from an individual such as Ken Black.
Diving, Falling is the first novel by Kylie Mirmohamadi who has been thinking and writing about literature all her life. It is a book with layers and turbulence just beneath the surface, and it is a joy to be a part of launching this book into the world.
Based on the notes I made reading it, I do think this is a novel that lends itself to intense conversations about people’s actions, about ethics and morality, about the hidden dynamics in relationships and then in broader networks.
