
So what is The Theory of Everything?
Firstly, I am referencing the non-existent scientific “theory of everything.”
I have been wondering for a while now how does a writer try to capture the world we live in through fiction. My sense is that by sticking to a narrative structure that follows A to B and then proceeds to C, there is a limitation to such a structure and the sort of story that can be told.
Instead, to capture “everything” needs a looser and more expansive structure.
Hence a work of fiction that plays with style and structure, that seeks to push the boundary of fiction to find new ways to engage with the world.
The Theory of Everything has five parts: GAME – GENDER – MODERN – SILVER – ABSURD
It is obvious that if another human being was to write their fictional “everything” that they would choose different themes.
Above all, I wanted to play with language. I call this a manifesto of sorts, a manifesto that advocates nothing.
The blurb on the back was written by me. When I sent it to my publisher, I had no idea that they would end up putting it on the back of the book. I wrote something that was tangent after tangent, which is very much a reflection of the spirit of the book.
As alluded to in the blurb, these are all words and you may just have to read the theory for yourself.
